Personal AI Channel Directives

Channel directives are specific instructions or guidelines that you can set for your AI within individual channels in Personal AI. They work by customizing how your AI behaves and responds in that particular channel, allowing you to tailor its personality, knowledge, and communication style for different audiences, purposes, or use cases.

Benefits of Channel Directives

  1. Multi-tasking: Channel directives let you use one persona for multiple purposes. Instead of creating new personas for each use case, just make a new channel with a specified channel directive.
  2. Customization: You can create unique directives for each channel, specifying how your AI should interact in that specific context.
  3. Overriding: Channel directives take precedence over your persona’s custom directive within that channel, allowing for more targeted interactions.
  4. Audience-specific: You can adjust your AI’s tone, language complexity, and topic focus based on the channel’s audience or purpose.
  5. Privacy control: Channel directives help manage what information your AI shares in different contexts, maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  6. Real-time adjustments: You can modify channel directives as needed, allowing your AI to adapt to changing conversation dynamics or requirements.

How To Create a Channel Directive

  • To create a channel directive, go to your Persona settings and select “Train” at the top of your screen.
  • Make sure your Persona Identity is set to “Custom”.
The image shows a setup page for creating an AI persona. It includes options to customize the AI’s photo, identity, name, and AI mode. The name is set to “Charlotte” and the AI mode is set to “Copilot”.
  • To add a new channel directive, scroll down past your Persona’s custom directive until you see the “Channel Directives” section.
The image presents custom directives for the AI, including a general directive about the AI’s role as a financial analyst and specific channel directives for email drafts and financial research.
  • Once you are in the “Channel Directive” section, you can name and describe new channel directives.
  • The smaller boxes are where you name the channel directive which defines its purpose and focus. For example, in the image above, there are two different channel directives: “Email Drafts” and “Financial Research”. It’s beneficial to name your channel directives as you’ll be able to select between them once in the channels later.
  • The larger boxes are where you describe the actual channel directive. These are the specific instructions that you want your channel to follow. Make sure to give clear guidelines and provide detailed roles and responsibilities.

Note that only the channel owner can create and change channel directives.

How To Switch Between Different Channel Directives

Once you have finished defining the channel directives in your Persona settings, locate your channels to pick which specific directive you want your channel to follow.

  • Start by pressing the Persona icon at the top right of your channel. This will give you a dropdown menu of different channel settings (see below).
  • When pressing “Channel Directive”, you will see a new dropdown menu displaying the different channel directives you’ve created. As mentioned earlier, it is great to name your channel directives as they will be displayed in this list making it easier to distinguish them from each other.
The image shows AI settings, including options for voice responses, AI profile selection (currently set to “Charlotte”), channel directives, and AI response settings. The AI mode is set to “Copilot” and there’s a slider for adjusting the AI response level, currently set to 30%.
  • Once you have chosen the specific channel directive you want your channel to follow, start interacting with your channel to see how it performs.
  • If you are looking for a different response from your AI, simply go back to the Persona settings to modify the channel directive you created.
  • Once you are happy with the responses, start using your channel for specific use cases, such as helping you draft emails.

Personal AI Channel Upload

Channel upload is a feature available exclusively to our Elevate customers, designed to enhance collaborative AI training within enterprise environments. This functionality allows any member of a channel to contribute to the AI’s knowledge base by uploading documents and files directly to different personas.

Here are some key advantages of this feature:

  • Every channel member now can actively participate in expanding the AI’s capabilities without requiring admin-level access to Personal AI. This is particularly beneficial for enterprises where various team members gather valuable resources and insights across different departments or projects.
  • By enabling channel uploads, companies can leverage the collective expertise of their entire team to create more comprehensive AI personas. For instance, a marketing team could collaboratively build a persona focused on brand guidelines and campaign strategies, while a research team could develop a persona specializing in industry trends and competitive analysis.
  • This feature not only streamlines the AI training process but also fosters a more efficient knowledge-sharing environment within organizations. It empowers team members at all levels to contribute their unique insights, ultimately resulting in more versatile AIs tailored to the specific needs of the enterprise.

How To Upload Within a Channel

Uploading to memory in a channel is a straightforward process that allows you to enhance your AI’s knowledge base. Here’s how it works:

  1. In the channel, you’ll see a “+” button next to the message bar.
  2. Click this button to access upload options.
  3. You can upload various types of content:
  4. Audio (wav, mp3, mp4, mov, and m4a)
  5. Files (docx, md, txt, pdf)
  6. Public links
  7. Plain text directly in the message bar

Above the input field, there’s a toolbar with various formatting options such as bold, italic, underline, and list styles. The toolbar also includes options for attachments, images, and emojis. On the right side of the interface, there’s an option to start a “New Convo.”

When uploading, you can add a title and use hashtags (#) to link the content to specific topics. This helps your AI contextualize the information for future reference while improving the accuracy of the responses.

Users can either drag and drop files or browse to select them. The upload is associated with a profile named “Charlotte”. There are options to upload the file content as a document and save it to memory or upload it as a draft. Users can add a title and custom tags to organize their uploads. The interface includes input fields for the title and tags…

The uploaded content gets added to your AI’s memory stack which allows for future modifications to the content. However, these edits can only be made by the account admin.
