Personal AI Power Users: Tela Holcomb

As a small business owner, efficiently managing customer support, team communication, and other key business functions can be a constant challenge. But one founder has found an innovative solution - using her Personal AI to take on many of these time-consuming tasks.

I recently had the chance to interview Tela Holcomb, who runs a stock market education and options trading business. She shared how she discovered and started using Personal AI to transform the way she runs her company.

Tela shares the main ways she uses her Personal AI:

  • Replying to messages from her employees.
  • Replying to messages from her customers.
  • Using her AI to summarize Slack messages to keep her up to date while saving time.

"The most helpful way I use Personal AI is going to be customer support,"  Tela explained. After her previous assistant left the company, she decided to see how much she could offload to the AI before needing to hire someone new. She integrated the AI with her customer support inbox and the team's Slack channel, allowing it to handle common support inquiries and provide summaries of team discussions.

"That right now is really saving a lot of time," she said. The AI is able to draft thoughtful responses to customers that don't sound robotic, while also keeping track of past interactions - something traditional chatbots can struggle with. Her team has even mistaken the AI's responses for her own at times.

Beyond customer service, Tela is using the AI to stay on top of her team's progress and activities. "I have been just asking my AI, like, 'hey, give me a summary of everybody's check in,' and it'll tell me really quick," she said. This helps her efficiently catch up on what's going on without having to dig through Slack.

Looking ahead, Tela has a few ideas for how she'd like to expand the AI's capabilities even further. She's interested in the ability to further integrate it with tools like Zapier to trigger automated actions, as well as build a text-based community where customers can directly message the AI for support and engagement.

"I would love to be able to have that functionality right in Personal AI," she said. "And I would love to see each person that texts, DM's, chats, and  be able to see each of those segments all at once ."
